Chatting With The experts: Portraits Bridal

Choosing the perfect hairstyle for your wedding day ain't an easy task, so you'd better have a great team of artists to support you. Our personal favourites? The Portraits team - that's why we had a little chat with Zara Vernazza, the team's Head Hair Stylist, to give us some precious inside info on what it takes to have the most brilliant bridal hairstyle:

Q: What is your most favourite bridal hairstyle you've created recently?

A: I absolutely adored our real bride Billie, who had three very strong and different looks. For the wedding evening, she opted for a long sleek ponytail with added hair extensions, hair was pulled back off the face to reveal her very striking features and her look was completed with the most insane Temperly outfit. For the wedding morning, our bride changed her mind at the last minute and we created an impromptu hairdo with a loose chunky braid at the back of the head. Hair was understated but worked so well with all of the incredible blonde tones running through her hair. The fact that it was so unplanned gave it that raw edge! Finally, for the evening reception, Billie opted for a giant feather headpiece by Agnes Hart and we pulled the braid down, ruffled up her locks and created lots of uneven curls and textures to compliment her overall style and look!

Q: Is there a specific hairstyle your clients keep on asking for?

A: Braids are always very popular! There is so much versatility with them and the styles you can choose from, that anyone can have one and there are so many ways to incorporate them into your style.

Q: Where are you based and how far can you travel for your clients? Can you help a bride who's outside of the UK?

A: We are predominantly London based, however our ever expanding team of 15-plus artists are available to travel anywhere in the U.K. or even internationally. We love a destination wedding as we get to travel along side doing what we absolutely love.

Q: Can you spot any 'mistakes' that young brides tend to do? Do you have any tips on how to avoid them?

A: Our clients are generally very modern, open and experimental, but a lot of mistakes we notice throughout the bridal industry include young brides who opt for overly fussy or aging styles. We are definitely moving forward from this as an industry, but there are still a lot of brides who get bungled in with the same boring look that we have seen time and time again, even if the style is not a reflection of themselves! Be yourself, it will make you shine inside and out on the day!

Q: What makes a bridal hairstyle...perfect?

A: When the bride is completely comfortable!. The hair should work perfectly with the dress and the general wedding theme. It should be suitable for the day but above all it should represent the bride's personality!

Q: Do you have any favourite accessories to play with?

A: We love oversized giant headpieces and accessories that make quite the statement, for example a piece from Luna Bea. Quirky veils by Ann Marie Faulkner - we also love her glitter veils and always get excited when we get the chance to shoot her stuff. Debbie Carlisle has some incredible detailed vines and cute little flower hair pins that really bring the hairstyle to life. I also really like using fresh flowers as I can be creative on the day and it's always a little more unplanned which can be good.
